Make Deposits...

Sometimes we have to accept we get what we give.. ie. You can't expect or penalize...what you are not willing to freely give yourself.
Meaning you cant ask people to do things or penalize them because they  won't do things you want..especially when you are not willing to reciprocate
To reciprocate means to not do that which would be pleasing to you, but that which would be pleasing to the other person..
We have to make deposits in our lives as well as into others. If you take from pantry with out every replenishing it...it will become EMPTY...
YOU GET IT?? EMPTY..
Think about it like this do you want someone taking from you and never giving anything back? You dont have to expect anything but sooner or later you will notice the balance is not balanced..
So you say....
You want love but don't show it
You want peace but don't provide it
You want loyalty but dont give it
You want commitment but dont give it
You want affection but don't show it You want to be trusted but don't trust anyone.                                                  You want communication but hate talking to people
Maybe you think you do give these things because you are giving what works for you.. but nothing was ever successful long term from selfishness. OR From never seeking to understand and truly cohabitat with someone..
Success require energy and dedication even in the simplest relationships .
So don't forget to make depoits along with those withdrawals..
Keep the happiness circulating..

Life in Cuba.... a Hidden Gem....

Life in Cuba.... Well at least for 6 days
(Tips & dispelling myths)
First off let me say this was a super trip!!
So glad I went... 2/18-2/23/17.
If you have not, I suggest you Make room for Cuba on your travel list.. 💖

I loved Cuba so much, not because of the glam and shine, but because of the shine you have to find through the rubble, the broken streets.  The shine you see in the smiles on the people, children... shoot even the animals.  Just to be in the energy of gratefulness was astounding... But not in the desperation sense, moreso in a proud sense.  One thing I can say about the Cuban people is their sense of PRIDE is humongous!  It is bigger than life.  Of course there is shadiness everywhere, but the true heart of the city, the people was so genuine.  They gave me life... The fact they do not see color or race... They see people.  There is so much we can learn from them.

Daily we were awakened by the rooster screaming cock-a-doodle-doo at 4:15am until7am.  He was like a Rooster snooze button I wanted to shut off.  Haha.. just kidding.  It was actually neat...yeah neat to hear him every day in the midst of the city.  I wondered if he was a pet or soon to be dinner..  Wait do we eat roosters?  It tastes like chicken right..

Anyway, Every day I hit El Malecon Blvd (this is the blvd that backs up to the oceanside) and watched the waves hit the rocks. We could see the water from our door step as we were only 2 blocks away.  Some mornings I would get up and run from our Apt to the docks where the cruise boats come in.  Then I would wander into the streets of Old Havana as I made my way back to the apt.  It was usually before 9:30am so it was always fairly quiet.  Each courtyard or street offered a new reward of some sort of artistry, statue, smell or people.  I snapped shots here and there in awe most of the time a the hidden treasures.
El Malecon Blvd, La Habana Cuba

Come 10 oclock the streets are buzzing with horns tooting, bicycle bells ringing, smells of good cafe in the air, brooms sweeping, school kids bustling around etc....  As you walk along the streets you will see into most peoples homes as they have their doors open or are even sitting at the doors watching the passer bys. Say Hola or Buenas Diaz.. I tell you it makes their day.  To see the smiles on their faces..#winning.

Museo De La Revolucion Havana Cuba

Museos De La Habana

Each day we walked the streets looking at the beauty, the french European influence in the architecture on every corner and at the same time we were engulfed with the city streets and the demolition... Some of it new... but most occurring over time.

Cathedral of Havana
Each day was an adventure. It was exciting to wake up each morning and start the day.. without a lot planned.  Let's see what happens.  Once piece of advice -  Remember to take time to actually relax and enjoy... Try to have no agenda and go with the flow.  I have learned over time the less you try to control the more successful you are at enjoying life.

Here are some of my suggestions and tips...and things we did along this journey....coupled with what I must do on the next trip, which I plan to take this year!!

Gran Teatro La Habana De Alicia Alonso

El Morro, La Habana

Step 1...Go ahead and book that ticket!
  • Tickets- Prices were so reasonable when we went.. it was $322 RT with a connection in FLL out of Dallas...on Southwest (SW). WOW!!
Initially, I was planning to head back to Belize, but saw Cuba for a great price and saw so many other wanderlusters talking about their trips... so the choice was easy...The Borders have been on lock for so long I jumped at the opportunity to go.
*Also Check discount travel sites - ie. flighthub.com (I'll share others as I hear about them)
- europeandestinations.com
- tripmasters.com
- alimindbodysoul.dreamtrips.com
- booking.com✔
- google.com/flights✔
- airfarewatchdog.com
- cheapoair.com
- kayak.com
- momondo.com✔
- secretflying.com✔
- skyscanner.com

- secretflying.com✔

When you need to make a call in La Habana Cuba

- golastminute.com
All in all... BE FLEXIBLE with travel dates and airlines/airports... the deals are out there.
*You will also need to select 1 of 12 reasons for your travel. I chose Education/People to People - Easy peasy.. Nothing else needed ( didn't need to prove it either)

  • Insurance- Cuba Travel requires insurance. SW and Jet blue incl insurance in the ticket.. Yay!!
Nothing else for you to do there. But please check with you airline before you book and your credit cards.  Often times they offer insurance is you book using that credit card.  Make sure you are getting the best deal and one that includes the insurance
  • Visa- you can prepay online .. SW sends a link when booking your airfare so super easy to get in advance and cost was $50. OR you can buy directly at the gate....
We saw blue kiosks that say 'Destination Cuba' in Fort Lauderdale airport and the people there are great and can get you ready to go in a jiffy. Cost may vary by airline... They really make it easy!
  • Global Entry/TSA Pre✔ - try to get this is if you plan to travel alot. Internationally and Domestically... Cost is $100 and really doesn't take long to get. I applied on 1/30/17 and had my application approved for the interview.  picked next available 2/10/17.  Went for appt and was in and out in 7 mins.  The GOES number you get when your application is approved is then activated within 48 hrs.  Add this number to any pre-existing travel or new travel.        TSA Pre will show up on your tickets for international and domestic travel.
Global Entry allows you to use specific kiosks for going through customs and speeds up the process.
  • Before you Leave the States (or wherever that has internet)
  1. Download Google Translator APP - download offline the language you will need and it works perfectly.  You can hold the phone over the words on a menu or sign or book in that language and it will auto translate without taking a pic.  You can speak or hold it up when someone else speaks to capture their words and then translate.. How cool.  This app was a Gods send for us.
  2. Download MAPS.ME - download the country or city you will be in offline and use this without wifi or data anywhere. It was awesome.  It marks your exact location and gives you turn by turn.  You can see the arrow move as you move.  Cool huh??
and they both are free!!

  • To Exchange Money or NOT - Ok so here is where it gets good...

Things are getting easier so if you want to convert US Dollars prior to arrival in CUBA it seems like the best conversion is to EUR.  You will want to check exchange rates either way.  My experience and my traveling friends experience this trip is as follows:  we were told Cuba will NOT take the US$$ or it will be hard to exchange.  We found out... you CAN take the US$$ and you can exchange and exchange fairly easily at the Cuban airport.  On top of that the exchange rate in Cuba was better than the exchange rate I got in the US for Exchanging for EUR....Which means I lost more money off the top. :( Also larger hotels will exchange EUR, CAD and some will exchange US$$.  Banks will likely exchange all currency types as well.
The most used currency is the CUC, however some of the local stores still us the CUP.

*If you need to go to El Banco please alot a few hours or get there at least a half hour before they open.  they only let so many people inside so you have to stand outside until they allow you inside.  We had a little connection just by making friends and they exchanged our monies for us. They actually went right in to the front of the line and came out with our money... Wahla!!!

Next question - How much to take? I exchanged $800 US and only used say equivalent to $500 US and that was high. Now that I know how things work, You can easily budget $25-$60 daily depending on what you plan to do.
  • Wifi- you can buy a wifi card – Internet access can be limited unless free where you stay. Once we got the cards it was pretty easy to follow instructions. NOW getting online at different locations was sketchy. Sometimes we could get on. Sometimes we could not. I will say, sometimes you spent more time trying to get on.. Next time I will use the time to explore.... ;)

o To gain access to WiFi in Cuba, purchase a card from a ETECSA telecommunications centre or a hotel which has WiFi accessibility. The card will cost $2.50 - 4.50 CUC / $4.50 / £2.93 and gives you one hour of online internet access in Cuba.  Tyhpicall y they only allow you to purchase 2 cards at a time.
* OR if you are kind.. just ask someone which locations sell cards.  FYI - the lines at the Etesca centers were always super long and take hours out of your day.  So get there aearly say 7:45-8am Or better yet.  plan to be off line and enjoy the city :)

§ How to Log On Using Nauta WiFi - http://www.cubacasas.net/a_intro/phones_Internet.html#Anchor-INTERNET-49575

§ The card has a log on code and password which you score off. When you select the network you will be asked for these. Type both in and hit accept then done. That should be you online.

§ How to Log Off Using Nauta WiFi

§ Type 1.1.1.1 into the search bar (if it takes you to a Google search of 1.1.1.1 ignore this and try again). Here you request to log off and click ‘cerrar sesión’. If you have not used your full one hour then the credit will be available for you to use again.

§ List of wi-fi spots as of 9 September 2016 - ALL you have to do is look for areas where people are sitting with their phones out and you know you have hit a WIFI location...

LA HABANA
• La Rampa (from the Malecón up to cine Yara in Habana Vedado),
• Parque Linea y L in Habana Vedado,

• Parque José Martin San Miguel del Padron
• Parque Hanoi + Centro Cultural in Alamar
• Parque Central + Parque Viondi in Guanabacoa,
  • Casa particulares - We stayed in an airbnb in the Vedado area.  Meaning we were close to everything!  It was a full 2bdr apt w/4 beds with full kitchen and living room for $35 per night  + $5 per extra person. $252 for 5 nights.  Can't beat that. I suggest an airbnb so you get the full experience.  Lots of the airbnb's offer meals and give tips.  Our host came in every other day and changed our bedding and towels like a real hotel.  She made us a great breakfast, provided tour info and on our last night she and her mother took us out for a night on the town! so much fun!!
Our Host -Contact: Lene - Find her on airbnb.com under La Habana Casa Manrique

Using the toilet - If you stay in a Casa Particulares ask if you can flush the toilet paper in the toilet. They may NOT be in an area with good septic system....(tissue goes in trash...) This was so tough to remember..
And also carry tissue with you as it may not be available in all restrooms. :)
  • Restaurant particulares - try to choose a smaller Restaurante Particulares which is usually family owned.  This helps the locals directly and you get a chance make acquaintances with locals and maybe hear their story.  We found good eats at the smaller street shops and carts for snacks and sweets.  Cost can be anywhere from $1.20 CUC= $1.20US for a whole pizza or humongous plate of food incl chicken for less than $5 CUC.  you can also find more expensive options, but why??
  • Drinks are easily $2.50 CUC or less.  but can be more expensive.  Look for places (incl hotels that display their menus and show prices) Oh and by the way... TIP their Margaritas are straight alcohol with a squeeze of lime and the are made with rum of course :)
What to take - Travel light if you can and only take a carry on.  I personally did not have any issues with my checked bag except we had to wait for it a bit with a millions others who looked like they shipped their entire house in saran wrap.  seriously funny.. :) :)
We went in February and this is considered their winter.  It was 70-80s daily and we wore sandals, shorts, tanks and dresses daily and it was warm.  Loved it!!!
  • Transportation - how do you wanna roll?
-Classic cars - so many options and easy to book one. You can find most of them at the Capital area or at any larger hotel or just hail one while standing on the street.

-We were going to book one for 3-4 hrs at $40CUC for 3 people.  What a great price!!
-Coco cabs - these are cute 3 seater small cabs that whisk you around town.  so if you have a short ride. hail one and as always negotiate your price.  I will tell you this... they are open so hold on to your money... you don't want it to fly out the window and have to chase that $20CUC down on the Malecon!!  It could be dangerous... hahaha (yes this happened to a friend)
-Yellow cabs -
-Viazul Bus - check the website... you can \
-Local buses- just jump on for .40CUC.. They are usually packed, but you want to experience the culture, give it a whirl

***NOTE- Transfers to La habana from Airport and back – 17mi.. 30 mins $25 each way

Things to see - Everything!!! Honestly, get a map of the city you plan to stay in and mark some things you want to see and then just go with the flow.  Going off the beaten path was where we learned more and saw more culture.  And DON'T be afraid to talk (use that google translator... it works wonders)

Got my own Coco Cab!

This Kind of LOVE....

I want the kind of love that'll be going Strong in 30 years..like day ONE!

The kind that looks at me in amazement..
The kind I don't have to wonder about..
The kind that protects my heart..
The kind that laughs with and at me..
The kind that cries with me..
The kind that prays with me..

The kind that comforts me..
The kind that builds with me..
The kind that trusts me..
The kind that honors me..
The kind that needs me..
The kind that teaches..

The kind that inspires me..
The kind that supports..

The kind that respects me..

The kind that is intentful..

The kind that knows what I am thinking..and let's me think anyway..

The kind that can answer for me..and knows when to..

The kind that pushes me..

The kind that will hold me..

The kind that adores me..

The kind that understands me..

The kind that speaks to me silently..

The kind that appreciates me..

The kind that wants to explore it ALL with me..

The kind that smiles at me Each and Every Day.....

Not the kind of love that never disagrees or hurts...

Not the kind of love that judges..

Not the kind of love that is malicious..

But don't get me wrong... LOVE can have physical elements..

It can be sparked by touch or whispers

It can be embedded in a soft Kiss

It can be the look in ones eyes

or mutual exploration of the body..key word Mutual.

I'm talking about Love... intangible LOVE...

The Love that can not be easily measured by things or opinions....

The kind of love felt but not always seen.

The kind of love that is unmistakable and unwavering....

this will be a growing blog.... I may add something new often....

Being Vulnerable..My Feelings..

Vulnerable moment....
Most people think I'm happy go lucky all the time and full of life, can handle it all, or nothing ever bothers me...you know..I'm Ali.. and for the most part I am happy and almost always looking for the silver lining..
But I do go through things. Things bother and hurt me but I tend to evaluate/recover quickly and move on (happiness/peace/calm is such an desired place for me)..which gives appearance I'm always ok..
Often times I move on before ever addressing what happened...(working on getting better at that)... which, sometimes leaves things unresolved.
***Recently, my feelings were hurt (**you have to hold a special place in my heart to even hurt my feelings which is another reason why I usually look happy... My circle of who can affect me that way is pretty small..)
and as usual I tried figuring out why I even felt that way..lots of things come up as to why..maybe I was being overly sensitive, or stressed, or needed comfort..or... thought I was 'taller' than I am....who knows.. Point is it caught me off guard and hurt.. (It was Actually good feeling to acknowledge the hurt and let the emotions pour out.)
(*I've been taught to be on guard to stifle my feelings, keep them to myself or resolve on my own for a long time) ..but I sat back and realized it is ok to feel/acknowledge hurt/disappointment, whatever the reason.. & even To express it as long as it's done respectfully.
My goal is not to reside there.. (& address when necessary.) I may not get the response I think will ease my hurt, and that has to be ok...because what I get is exactly what was supposed to be... the cycle of emotions I have been so good at hiding is necessary for me to go through to acknowledge, embrace and grow in myself...
***Learning to allow my feelings openly so I can let them flow is a work in progress.

Even in my doubt.. I press on..

Ali Random Thoughts:
Just because someone is blissful and highly freespirited most of the time doesn't mean they are not often greeted with rejection ie. NOs and quite often many rarely think those spirited souls get sad, heavy hearted, hurt or cry....
On the contrary we do....we typically care about everyone and everything which makes it even tougher...
I will concur that quite often I hear No, Not today, ehhhh, I can't, flat out NO Ali!  or a myriad of rejections..( trust me.. My strike 3's get counted often and quickly)..but I try not to get discouraged...and not dwell on negative things much... They are lessons and I can learn from them as I choose. As we all can.
When one door is closed or slightly open with a door stop holding it firmly....I run down the hall trying to open others as if Jason is chasing me...(without falling over that leaf....of course).
**Then when I find one that is open..I run in and slam the door behind me and sit quietly without breathing (to make sure Jason doesn't find me... Sorry couldn't help it)
Anyway, rejection is rejection.. it hurts, but you cant stay there long..life is a struggle where ever we allow the struggle to lay...going to the next option when you've tried your best doesn't denote failure it shows strength and perseverance....
Even in my doubt.. I press on..
I dance a little (OK a lot-even to no music)
Cry a little..
Appreciate those who encourage me.....
And dance some more...
Anyway have a Super day!
Be Blessed

Winning doesnt always mean crossing the line first...

Ali Random Thoughts:
I noticed I have had to wait a day to respond to some texts and emails lately... (personal & work)
My initial response has been a bit of agitation on a few things and that is not like me...
I know I am a bit off balance personally and professionally...as of late.
I responded to a few things today with absolutely no angst... Same msgs as before..only change was in me...
*sometimes I have to take a moment when I notice my tone, my energy, my agitation level....My Balance is off and get back on track...
*I used to be quick to belt out anything that I wanted with little regard as long as I felt I was being true to myself....
And some friends would laugh and think that was .... Ali being Ali....
But is that the Ali I wanted to be???
Was I Actually getting what I wanted??
Hmmm... I learned (for me) this was not displaying my true strength nor helping me develop my passion/purpose so I started paying more attention and being more conscious say about 7ish yrs ago...
At first I was reflecting on everything I did and said... What my thought process was.. Why did I feel this way.
Why was my initial response what it was?
What inside me was triggering this response?
Was I OK with it? Or not?
My goal was to get to a point where I did not have to think about my reaction or wonder later what I said or how I said it... I wanted to live more and reflect less... But it took time to deal with inner things that triggered those reactions in me.
I can say now I more easily process things not to dismiss them, but they truly just roll off my back without me categorizing and rationalizing etc...
It has taken a long time and I still have some things that I clearly have not completely dealt with because the presence of the scenario continues to pop up in my life.
But in this process I have come to a place where I believe PAUSE is beneficial and a quick response is not always the best....
Winning doesn't always mean crossing the line first...

Alis Lets Talk Sex - SEX & Food...

Ali's Health Sex ED 101 - Does Food Matter?
Can Food make you perform better in Bed?

Hey friends!
I am in my mid 40's and many of my friends are as well and we are not getting older we are getting wiser, more rambunctious, spontaneous, etc...
One thing I can say for certain (for me at least) is life sure does get better and so should sex.
We don't die off after our 20's or after we have had children we actually start living (i hope).  Sex is a major part of life.  It is a major part of relationships (whether we want to admit it openly or not).
Well I am here to talk about it. From a physical & mental point of view.

Look.... we can play around here and say we don't need to worry about our bodies.  Say it doesn't matter what we eat, how much sleep we get, our stress levels etc...
NOT TRUE!!!  and you know it as soon as you try to get it on......or as soon as you are finished...
Saying it doesn't matter is a cop out to me.  Yes, I said it.... a Cop out. A way to displace our behavior when in actuality we need to take responsibility.

At the end of the day and the beginning, for this matter.  You are in total control.
So lets get down to it.

Pharmaceutical companies are making a killing on all these different sex help drugs..
with Side effects lists that make me rather become a nun. (like why do I need to have diarrhea or nausea, cramps, dizziness list goes on for everything)  That is alarming to me...?!?!?!
They have FloMax, Cialis, Viagra, Levitra (for Men) and Intrinsa and Flibensarin (for Women) to name a few. And I am certain they work for many people.
BUT what if just a change in diet and lifestyle can help correct the issue and the side effects leave you feeling UP instead of down? Puns Intended....

So let's list a few foods in this first edition that are good for sexual health management...

Tomatos are high in lycopine which is great for blood food. ie. erection.
Celery helps balance sodium levels.  Lower sodium levels pull sodium from Bones making them weaker.  pay attention...
Citrus is high in flavonoid which decreases blood pressure and  increases erectile function.
Avocados aid in balancing hormones and cervical cancers.
Olives assist in the function of ovaries.
Pineapples are high in Vitamin C and other benefits and said to increase the TASTE.... Whether this is true or not, if it helps you eat more good foods.. .I say do it. ;)

Everyone may not agree with this information... but I am a firm believer you are what you eat. and your body speaks to you we just have to listen.  So when things are not working like they should we owe it to ourselves to pay attention SOONER than later.

So before you resort to synthetic drugs, for the purpose of getting your rocks off or on... consider a natural healthy alternative.   Start with being honest with yourself. Find a good support system. Be with someone who will support your lifestyle changes.  why shouldn't they???? it benefits them....

And if you are still on the line with this one and don't really think you need to change for YOU (the most important person) and you are blessed enough to have a significant other, then.... well.... Do it for them.
The response will be magical....

Look Better, Feel Better, Taste Better

Moving too fast or Mutuality ??

Morning friends
Felt like writing a little because I think I'm befuddled a bit about Initial Dating Rules (moving too fast vs. Mutuality)?
Ali's Thoughts:
I've been seeing lots of posts/comments from men and women about initial dating rules lately maybe cuz it's Valentine's Day season.  About how we should date, whether we are moving too fast or not. Ex.  how long you wait to say you like someone, how long before there is physical intimacy, how long before you call, if you should always be available. All this and that... And how those things can dictate whether a person thinks you are worthy of a chance or not, in SOME cases....
(*This post isn't about physical appearance or morals or personality qualities, behavior or characteristics, personal preferences...or if he or she might be crazy or predators or stalkers(haha sorry) etc... Its not about the internal value of a person.. it is merely about following those initial dating rules and judging one another based on them just because someone said you should.
Let me first say, For the record I am currently single and never been married & seem to always be tweaking myself and observing as I learn from dating. Some experiences funny, some not so much..
I am no expert just sharing my opinion...about something I realize even I may be subjected to (ie. judged by).
We are all different. So, for me, I believe,  in this day and time if two people have GOTTEN to know each other (whatever that timeframe is to them) and they are MUTUALLY on the same page (whatever that page is for them) to GO FOR IT!
(*if you aren't on the same page or in Like for Like that's different and does NOT pertain to this post)
I'm talking mutuality....
In essence, I feel like These 90 day vs 1 date rules, who says they like who first, being avail or not, being too avail or not etc... Can misguide us. Saying something will work or not work based on activities that really has less to do with a persons true self but is merely a rule ingrained to follow, is false guidance when the rest of the package matches up. Ie personality, lifestyle, do they make you laugh, can you spend time with them doing nothing, do you want to just spend time, qualities you share, admiration etc...
Now some of those rules are entertaining to listen to sometimes, but really??
Of course take your time where you need, hence I said mutual timing and after you've gotten to know one another etc... But to blindly follow rules just cause?
DO WE STILL DO THAT?
Let me explain my thoughts a bit....I've been on both sides of some of those rules  and at this STAGE IN 'MY' LIFE,  I feel like if my value/quality is SOLELY determined by whether I did one of the above rules (not based on personality etc... And Given we have spent some get to know one another time, but are hung up on the rule.....)

...WAIT FOR IT.....
then I may not be what they are looking for..Or vise versa..
***let that sit for a minute...I had to think about this myself....

I think when two people meet they know if they like one another
(ie. Sometimes there is 'The spark' or just..that unexplain-able feeling of likeness, usually not based on looks or status etc... Just something about them) or if they want to get to know one another because they are intrigued so they carry on with dating...

I'd like to think we do what feels right for us and even if a relationship does not work out,
we GO FOR IT again.. The last thing we should be judged about is an ambiguous rule.

I think if we can be intentional and strive for mutuality in friendships, companionship, professional relationships etc....things will work out.

Either way... Do what feels right for you with no regrets... We all have choice.
If something doesn't feel right, carry on.
But don't beat yourself up and don't allow things outside of you and your situation to dictate your every step.

Alis Out of Shape... weight loss story!

My weight loss story:
About 14 mos ago 12/3/2014 I was 176lbs. (*most will swear that couldn't be true...it was..i just carried it 'secretly' I guess )..
Anyway, I was eating raw and pretty lean, light on meats, veggies etc..BUT i was on this gluten free kick which is still sugar in disquise and false sense of overall healthy (*cuz you still have to pay attention to the affects of whatever you consume on your body)..
I was making homeade breads *daily..(so good no lie) etc.. having rehular late night cocktails, coffee daily And my stress levels were super high!! (These are the things, I know were impacting my body. Everyone is different)
I was very sluggish and lacked energy and motivation to exercise etc... (**False sense of good body genetics too).
I am huge on health/ weight loss being 80% what you eat, but I will mention the supplement I tried which was Thrive.
Supplements are  something I am primarily against (ask my trainer we argue about that often) because I have been plant based natural for years, but I gave it a shot anyway because I wasn't sleeping well, couldn't get up, couldn't work out, wasn't effective at work yada yada.
I admit.. it jump started me and my results were awesome in the 4 wks I consistently took it. But I didn't want to be reliant on maintaining my weight based on a supplement so I stopped using it.
That was Jan 2015.
I dropped from 176lbs to 140lbs.
Was working out regularly, had energy once I lost the weight and felt good overall.
*Biggest challenge is doing what it takes to maintain my desired weight and feel good.
I did well with strength and toning through the first half of the year and was so lean..
It was unbelievable.  I felt sooo good.. Squats, pushups, sprinting, everything was 50times easier because I was carrying less. Less waist, booty, less thigh, hips (Womens main problem areas)
I have kept the weight off, but in Oct 2015 I started slacking etc... due to work and life stress etc... I Stopped working out as much....
The muscle I gained turned into fat so technically I have gained weight mass because fat weighs less than muscle but takes up more space..
Ie. I weigh the same, but my clothes now fit different because my body is shaped different.
*most can't tell, but I can.... So that's all that matters 
Anyway, I mention all of that to say while I am extremely proud I have kept the weight off, I AM OUT OF SHAPE!!
So now its time to tone and strengthen again.
I miss the muscle tone in my legs & glutes and ability to do 75+ pushups and squats without being out of breathe.
With that said I will be starting squat workouts and more protein and muscle management using a raw meal protein to rebuild, maintain and get back ' In Shape' .
Don't be fooled squat workouts are full of cardio and can be great HIIT workouts. I'll be building our some combos as I go along.. I need variety in my workout or I'll get bored.
I will be getting back on the hiking trails soon and hope to build my intermediate & extreme level hike groups. 
Please feel free to join me in my squat workouts, hikes or follow my progress.
Are you making any lifestyle changes you want to share..?
Tell me about them!
Remember workout is great, but also be cognizant of what you eat and when you eat... Good food is ultimately the best supplement..

Start of the New Year Basic Body/Health Tips!

Welcome to 2016!!!
the start of a new beginning for some and continuation for others.
Wherever you are at, keep moving forward.  Take one step at a time.
Worry less about annual Resolutions and create Lifestyle changes...

So why not start off with some basic tips to get you going in the New Year....

**Remember Weight Loss is 80% Diet (meaning what you consume and when you consume it; NOT to be mistaken for a diet plan specifically) and 20% exercise

  1. Eat Well, Eat Lean, Eat Often
    • Eat USEful calories - care about what you are eating - READ Labels
      • if you can not pronounce it, meaning it sounds like a synthetic try to understand what it is prior to consuming.
        • if you shop along the perimeter of the store you can avoid alot of the processes/boxed/packaged foods that contain many of the synthetic ingredients in them.
    • consume 5-6 meals per day consisting of 4oz portions for ladies and 6-8oz for guys (all these can vary based on body type and health, please consult your own physician or nutritionist)
      • Your body will adjust to eating often
      • RAW is in!! (* note some water grown vegetables ie. Water lettuce require at least steaming to cook off any parasites that naturally live on the leaves. Read or consult seller or gardener)
        • if you cook vegetables try to limit cooking time to less than 5 minutes u (with exception to some potatoes and other harder gourd vegetables)
    • Meat consumption tips
      • I suggest to go for lean cuts of meat or fish
        • I am partial to Lamb, Wild Caught Salmon from and processed in US, turkey.
          • I will occasionally have organic, hormone free chicken
          • I personally stay away from Talapia
        • Tip for ground meat for burgers, meatloaf, meatballs etc..
          • I sugeest purchasing meet cuts and grinding them when you are ready for any recipe calling for ground meat.
            • that way you know that the entire thing is meat and you pick the cut of meat for grinding.
  2. Drink Water
    • Drink half your body weight in ounces daily
    • drink Before Each meal and after; before bed and when you wake up.
  3. Food portion control is major... as a rule of thumb if you eat your meals with multiple food groups in one sitting. make sure your Vegetables (lightly cooked or raw) consume the largest are of your plate.
  4. Be Heart Healthy
    • this means exercise your heart. When you do exercise make sure to get in cardio building work.
      • IE. HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training
        • These workouts keep your heart rate high, build muscle and continue to burn calories/fat long after your workout. The muscle you build will naturally burn calories longer than fat.
          • So DONT be afraid to tone and it looks SEXY :)
        • check out some of my posted workouts on this blog  www.alimbsplus.blogspot.com
  5. Donate those clothes do not fit any longer
    • This eliminates the cushion that you can gain weight back because those clothes will be gone. And if you are anything like me, you refuse to go buy larger clothes.
Be sure to enjoy the transition!
This is your Body
This is your Life
Make it the best you can!!

Body Vista! Regrow Veggies & fruits from Scraps!!

Did you know you can regrow fruits & veggies from scraps & seeds???

First, let me suggest purchasing heirloom, pesticide free veggies to regrow.. They may be a tad bit more expensive.  If you are looking for non-GMO veggies, that is the way to go.

This list was interesting to me.  Most of us eat most everything on this list or have at one point or another.  If you are health conscious this is great.
Not only are you getting good food you can trust, cuts down on expense of purchasing these items at your local farmers markets and organic based stores.  You also practice pre-planning which I believe is the one main reason it is hard for some to stick to clean eating etc...

Here are a few that are easy to grow and how you grow them.
*Lettuce/Bak choy - I am a fan of dark green leafy greens so cut the base off, put the leaves in water and sunlight for 3 to 4 days and you should start to see the roots shoot out after that go ahead and put them in gardening soil.
*Bean sprouts - Yes, any kind of bean you like.  I love adzuki and anasari, black, garbanzo etc.... Take your favorite dried beans, soak beans in water overnight then put them in a jar covered with cheese cloth so that they can breathe.  Rince beans in the morning and do this over and over daily until you see the sprouts grow and from there you can pull off the sprouts based on whatever desired length you want.
*Lemongrass- Isn't Lemongrass one of the vegetables that is always so hard to find in the store? Well buy it once and regrow yourself.  Place the base shoots in a bowl with water, place in the sunlight. After about one week you to start seeing the roots grow and then you can plant that in garden soil.
*Avocados -This one is a super food so it would be great if you could grow them yourself, right? Note- these take a little bit longer so you're going to want to prepare for this process. It takes about 6 weeks for sprouting to begin. So this one requires patience.  You take the seed and suspend the seed over water and allow half of the seed to sit in the water and as that begins to sprout then you take that and plant that into garden soil.
*Potatoes - What kind of potatoes do you like? I love a Black/purple or red potato and then the sweet potato of course. (note sweet potatoes are slightly different because they do not have eyes so to speak. )  For all potatoes with exception of Sweet potatoes, take peelings with the eyes and allow those to dry and then place those into the soil with the eyes facing up.
(who would have thought it was that easy to grow potatoes)
*Onions/ garlic - Plant the garlic and end of onions directly in garden soil.  This goes for green onions too.  Take the bulb and replant.  Cut off stalks as they grow. Takes 1 week to start seeing shuts.
*Peppers - Take the seeds from the peppers; left those dry and then plant the seeds in garden soil. Keep them in sunlight. Peppers grow pretty easily.  I love all kinds of peppers.  I would keep hot separate from mild when planting seeds to avoid mixing.  ALTHOUGH, that would be a cool experiment... Create your own variation buy mixing the seeds in one area and see what you grow.
*Tomatoes  -  Nothing tastier than an heirloom tomato.  I eat them like apples. Take the seeds from tomatoes. let those dry and then plant them in garden soil.
*Basil and cilantro - use a stem of the cilantro and/or basil and place it in water.Once it starts to root plant in garden soil.
There are also some fruits you can regrow.  These take more time to grow so you want to allow time and some patience.  This list includes Apple, cherries, lemons, pineapples and peaches. They do again take a lot of time to gross.  You have to nurture them and wait but they all do grow with a little patience
Hopefully you really enjoyed this list.
You can reference thses types of vegetables on lots of different lists.  Google "how to regrow food from scraps"

have fun
Happy Growing
